"The bright sides of the chaos, huh? I guess I can see that... Doesn't excuse the chaos, though."

            -Bobby Fulbright

An alternate universe version of Bobby Fulbright from the future, he's the godfather to Raven Blackquill and raised her after her parents died.

History

Once upon a time, Bobby was a justice-loving idiot. Then, at tender age of 33, some identity-snatching freak of a man kidnapped him from his apartment and locked him in a basement for about a week to 'study' him. To ask him question after question about the most pointless things. Sure, he was well fed, but being shackled to a wall by the ankle in a barely-lit, cold room messed with him pretty badly. Things got even worse when he was finally confronted by what was basically a clone of himself, who informed him that he'd reached the end of his usefulness. That he was going to die and be replaced, and no one would even notice. His life flashed before his eyes and the truth hit him like a ton of bricks; everything he'd done up 'till that point had been utterly worthless. He hated the sort of person he'd grown up to be and now it was too late to change it.

So he made a deal with the Phantom.

He gave up on Bobby Fulbright and became someone else, living it up while doing the spy's dirty work all across Europe and a few other countries. In a way, he was weighed down by the constant fear that the Phantom would come and finish the job, but in a way, he felt like he was finally free. Liberated from all responsibilities and rules, he got to enjoy things he normally wouldn't. It resulted in a good nine months of booze, cigarettes, occasional soft drugs and one-night stands. Sure, he experienced guilt and shame, but that only fueled the reckless behavior. He was living on borrowed time anyway, or so he assumed back then. When he left America to start his travels, it was January 2027. When he finally came to a full stop in Borginia, it was September. It was there that he met Domestique LaSoote, an overly-charming Borginian playboy and part-time history teacher who lavished 'Randy' (yes hi, alias) with attention and made him feel like was more than an expendable nobody. Domestique didn't ask any questions about 'Randy's' past either, which was another bonus. He got to stay in Domestique's apartment as opposed to a motelroom and whenever he had another panic attack, the guy would be there to soothe him.

(For more information on Domestique LaSoote, refer to Meowzy's Phantoms and Mirages fanfiction series.)

There was a spur-of-the-moment marriage after only two weeks, in which Domestique steadily became less attentive and more frustrated. It seemed like the man was hiding a few secrets of his own, too. Still, Bobby accepted it for what it was and stayed put. Around the end of December 2027, shortly after Simon Blackquill's execution, the Bobby Fulbright in Los Angeles went missing and it wasn't long before 'Randy' was identified as the same guy. The whole story of the Phantom came out and he was dragged back to his old life, divorcing Domestique as he went. The marriage had been kind of a trainwreck anyway.

Almost a year after returning to America, he was contacted by some lawyers who informed him that (an alternate version of) Tori Marie Nygma had passed away. He had no idea who that was, but he was told she died in an explosion. As he'd been named the godfather of her child, Raven Blackquill, and the father had been executed over a year earlier, the young girl was to be placed in his care in accordance with Tori's will. Initially, he rejected the offer and kept insisting that there must've been some mistake, even after he realized that Tori must've befriended the 'other Bobby Fulbright'. Still, when he laid eyes on Raven for the first time, he found himself unable to turn her away. He decided to make his life worthwhile by giving this young orphan a loving home. He cut down on most of his reckless habits like drinking and sleeping around, limiting it to smoking only. Then he found himself a therapist, because he was very much aware that he had plenty of issues to work through. He'd never be the responsible stick in the mud he used to be, but he could still clean up his act to the best of his ability.

Shortly after, Domestique convinced him to return to Borginia and give their relationship another go. The guy assured Bobby that alias or no alias, it didn't matter. He also assured him he didn't mind kids, and that he'd changed, etc. etc. A lot of promises were made, really. Bobby got swayed by all the smooth talking and moved back in with Domestique, this time with Raven, resulting in yet another marriage about a month after. One that was a whole lot better than the first one, because Domestique really had grown up to some degree, but it'd still only lasted for about eleven months. The two of them made a mutual agreement to just stay friends and occasional lovers, but that they should focus on themselves and the lives they had for the most part.

Skip ahead eighteen years later. Raven had grown into a polite young lady and Bobby, while still burdened by some issues, at least had his life on track. He got the job that Jake Marshall once had; overseeing the security of the police department's evidence room. Nobody could pay him enough to go back to being a detective, after all, but his old friends with the Criminal Affairs department pulled some strings for him anyway. Once or twice a year, he'd go back to Borginia to see Domestique and leave Raven in the care of either her aunt Aura, or with her best friend; (an alternate version of) Faith Parmalee. Bobby knew that Faith was supposedly another daughter of Tori, making her Raven's half-sister, but was asked by (an alternate version of) Jeb Parmalee not to share that information. Bobby respected that.

AAAND around that time CaHniverse came in.

Various Tidbits

  • He has a scar on his left ankle that he got during the week the Phantom locked him in a basement. During a particular fit of hysteria, he tried so hard to pull himself free of the manacle that chained him to the wall that the edge dug its way into the skin, drew blood and caused irreparable damage.
  • He hasn't really needed counseling in like ten years, but still hangs around with his therapist on a regular basis because the guy is just that cool.
  • He's a big fan of Trés Bien, which became a real hit with hipsters around the year 2030, and is good friends with Jean Armstrong.
  • He only ever smokes very standard cigarettes nowadays. Nothing with menthol or whatever.
  • He hates the word justice now.
  • Sometimes he'll sit down and have a drink with his world's version of Jeb, but finds the guy's optimistic, devoted widower attitude a little too depressing to tolerate for too long. (Also, the 'not aging' thing is kind of weird.)
  • He has a very nice collection of trashy gay romance novels that Raven was forbidden from touching, but he's sure she's snuck a peek at least once anyway.
